Power in prayer

 

We recently gathered together with my siblings/spouses. As I was having a conversation with my sister-in-law about the challenges of parenting she said “pray about and for your children!” Then later she told me she felt like she was inspired to say that. “Pray” I often pray for aspects of my calling. I pray for others, neighbors etc, but I haven’t been praying for my children as daily as I could. Be prayerful.

“Be thou humble”

 

Recently I was called to be the primary president in our ward. I tend to shy away from leadership because I don’t like being in the spotlight or in a position to make decisions. This has been a very humbling experience. The kids are so accepting and merciful and I learn so much from them. I do worry about what the adults think though, but this quote helps me see the value in being humble and willing to lead even when I make lots of mistakes. 

Look for the good in others

 

This is definitely something I need to work at. I remember hearing a saying many years ago about if you point your finger of scorn(or judgment) at someone, look at the fingers pointing back at you. It’s true. I point one finger at someone and three of my own fingers are pointing back at me, probably guilty of the same thing(and more) that I find in others.  So the same is probably true for the good. If we see the good in others, we can see the good come back to us threefold…

“You’re exactly enough”

 

This week I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed with a new responsibility that I wasn’t expecting or prepared for. My dear friend Jennifer sent me an encouraging text telling me I was “enough, exactly enough”   I love that and it’s something that I want my kids to know and believe…they are enough. They don’t have to win or beat others. They are exactly enough by being them! They are a child of God who can learn, create, contribute and connect. 

Trust God

 

Recently I was asked to give a lesson in Relief Society on Elder Gong’s talk “We each have a story.” I spent a month listening to it and reading it in preparation for the lesson. In the introduction Elder Gong said “I trust God”. That phrase has stuck with me ever since. I actually ended up getting really sick along with my family the weekend of RS so I had to cancel.  I’m not sure why it worked out that way but I’m grateful for the lesson I learned to trust God.  This quote by Elder Holland is helping me so much to move forward in faith as I begin a new calling in church.
