"I love the sights and sounds and smells of a bustling city in a foreign country. I love the peaceful green hills of the countryside.  I love the color of autumn leaves against the deep blue sky, the sound of a bird, the scent of pines. I love the sight of temple spires reaching into the heavens.  Every day brings something beautiful if we are willing to just look up and see it."-Marjorie Hinckley

"You seem embarrassed by loneliness, by being alone. It's only a place to start!"
Sabrina (the one with Harrison Ford)
I love the movie Sabrina and think it is a great movie with many gems of life wisdom in it.  I was single for a long time and this quote really resonated with me at the time.  It's funny how perspective changes, now i am never alone, well rarely anyways. With three little ones afoot it is hard to remember what being alone feels like.

"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." -James 4:8
A few nights ago we went to a sporting event.  Our two year old soon lost interest in the game and began to explore her surroundings instead. She would wander off into the crowd or find a staircase to go up and down, at one point she met a fellow two year old that was busily running to and fro so our little girl joined her.  Throughout all of her playing and exploring i kept a close eye on her. From my vantage point i could always see her and was aware of what she was doing but from her short in stature view she couldn't always see me. When she would realize i wasn't there, or so she thought, she would get a worried look on her face and start to head in the direction she thought i was...so i would walk nearer to her so she could see me. It made me think about our loving Heavenly Father. He is always there, and aware of us and our lives, but it isn't until we seek Him that He lets us know He is there. Just like with my daughter, if i hover and follow close by, she gets irritated and pulls away...so i patiently wait for her to seek me out.

“I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual…O how I laugh when I think of my vague indefinite riches. No run on my bank can drain it, for my wealth is not possession but enjoyment.”

 Henry David Thoreau

while the song I came to sing remains unsung.”

"Love...cannot be expected to last forever unless it is continually fed with portions of love, the manifestations of esteem and admiration, the expressions of gratitude, and the consideration of unselfishness." -President Spencer W. Kimball
When my husband and i were engaged we came across this quote in an Ensign. We were so in love and so desired for those feelings of love to last forever.  When we read this we really took to heart his counsel and hoped that we would continue to act on it when we were married. It is definitely a good reminder and inspired counsel from a prophet of God.

Excerpts from the biography of Eric Liddell(the gold medalist who refused to run on sundays...the man who the movie "Chariots of Fire" was made after...."He wasn't a great leader or inspired thinker, but he knew what he ought to do and he did it...Eric is the most remarkable example in my experience of a man of average ability and talents developing those talents to an amazing degree, and even appearing to acquire new talents from time to time, through the power of the Holy Spirit. He was, literally, God-controlled..."

Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity. -Margaret D. Nadauld

"A Friend Knows the Song in My Heart and Sings it to Me When My Memory Fails." -unknown
I've loved this quote for a long time. I feel so blessed to have such great friends. They not only remind me of who i am but who i want to be too. When i was in high school my mom said she never worried about me when i was out with my friends because they were such a great group of friends, and a great influence in my life.

"The test, then, of our soul's greatness is rather to be sought in our ability to comfort and console, our ability to help others, rather than our ability to help ourselves and crowd others down in the struggle of life." -Joseph F. Smith
This quote is always a good reminder to me about what life is really about. I was reminded of that today when i took our baby for her 6 month check up and our two year old daughter and three year old son to get their flu shots. Instead of feeling like we were a burden with all 3 kids in tow, we were welcomed with open arms by a kind nurse that instead of sticking us in an exam room and shutting the door, she stayed with us and got us settled in and made us all feel welcomed. Then the doctor came and remembered us from over 6 months ago when he last saw our baby(he is not our regular doctor but just happened to be on-call when she was born) He took the time to talk to the kids and get to know them at their level so they felt comfortable. It turned out to be such a positive experience which we were all grateful for because we had been dreading this visit!!!

I came across this quote on someone else's blog awhile back. I love how it just sums up being grateful and generous. It's one that i'd never heard before but it's a keeper!

"It is difficult to make a man miserable while he feels he is worthy of himself and claims kindred to the great God who made him." -Abraham Lincoln
My prayer is that each of our kids develops a personal relationship with their Heavenly Father and will feel their divine worth as a child of God.

"FIFTY was my favorite age, It takes about that long to learn to quit competing—to be yourself and settle down to living. It is the age I would like to be through all eternity!" -Marjorie Pay Hinckley
Sister Hinckley quotes always hit home to me. I'm not fifty yet, but i've loved the age of thirty so i relate to this quote and look forward to fifty in another decade and a half:) She is so down to earth and feels like an old friend even though i only had the chance to meet her once.

"Today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. " -Sanskrit

Isn't this quote so true?! I heard it a long time ago, and have found it to be so true. When i'm making good choices i remember the past with gratitude and sweet remembrances and look forward to good things to come. But the opposite is true, too. If i'm making poor choices and let discouragement creep in, i start regretting things from the past and fear the future. It's amazing to me how much power there is in the present.

It's kind of embarrassing how much i related to this quote when i read it. After we had our first two children i made sure to clean the house every night(at least make sure the living room and kitchen were clean) but after baby number three, it's a different story!

I think one's feelings waste themselves in words; they ought all to be distilled into actions which bring results.
Florence Nightingale

I've always wanted to learn more about Florence Nightingale and so i googled quotes by her and this is the first that came up. I'm a timid, introspective person so i'm inspired by her attitude of ACTIONS and not just thinking, writing, or talking about it but DOING it!
This quote is short, sweet and to the point! I've heard it at different stages of my life. It's given me the courage to be true to who i am.  Right now it strikes a chord to me as a mother. That i need to give my soul to being a mom to my children.
